30th commemoration of first ton: Sialkot planted seeds of Manchester hundred, says Sachin Tendulkar

It was on August 14, 1990, that Sachin Tendulkar scored the first of his 100 global hundreds of years, a grand 119 not out on a fifth day track to spare the game for India.

"A similar pitch we played a match on one day and following day we were back for nets. So balls would simply bounce off length and hit my nose. 

"Truth be told, I would simply hurl the ball and take it on my body to ingest the agony." 

Back to the match, the shots that he recalls are the perfect backfoot spread drives off Chris Lewis conveyances that dashed in. 

"Lewis bowled sharp inswing and all through my vocation, backfoot spread drive had been my preferred shot.
